The Shack By William P. Young: A Review

What a waste!

I picked this book up because my father, highly recommended it.  I typically am not someone who quits reading a book, no matter how much I dislike it.  This book, however, became the exception to that. I did read 3/4 of the book but then skimmed the last 1/4 of it without closely reading, so I guess technically I did finish the book.  (I truly wish I had not bothered with that skimming.)

Young managed to take what could have been an interesting premise for a book–the primary character, Mackenzie (called Mack by his friends) meeting God in the flesh after the tragedy of his youngest daughter being murdered–and drug it out in an excruciatingly tedious manner that simply made the book a complete waste of reading time.

I rarely ever regret picking up a book to read; this one I do.  Sadly, most of the time that my father recommends a book to me, he is spot on.  He completely missed the mark on this one.

1/2 a star (or less out) of 5.
